Punting on the River Cam;
Cambridge, England

In mid-October 2007, I accompanied my husband Russell to another of his scientific conferences, this one on the topic of genetics and personalized medicine. The meeting was in the beautiful town where the renowned Cambridge University is located. Fortunately, we found the time to go on a punting tour of the lovely River Cam that winds through the town. I took the photo that this painting is based upon while were in the middle of the river on our own punt, looking at another punt traveling ahead of us.

Despite it being autumn, the scenery was lush and green, with towering trees in full leaf everywhere, truly a sharp contrast to what it was like in Dallas, Texas where we were living at the time. Note that there are some Canadian geese on the lawn, although it is hard to see them because they are so tiny in the painting.

This is a really difficult time in the world, with the horrific war in the Ukraine and the Covid pandemic not quite over. Working on this tranquil scene was just what I needed to calm my soul.
