Over the years, my husband Russell and I would occasionally visit his brother Ethan and wife Brenda at their former Kalispell vacation home in northwest Montana. This painting is based upon a photo that I took in October 2014, just after sunrise in their backyard, which was on the river. I was fascinated by the golden mist that settled on the water early in the mornings, but quickly dissipated when the sun rose higher in the sky.

This was a peaceful retreat where we were able to enjoy vacations and celebrate occasional holidays together. The tranquil, natural beauty of the area, plus its close proximity to the wondrous Glacier National Park and the charming small town of Kalispell, made it a welcome refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life.
