No, this is not a pizza pie! This painting is based on my photo of a savory tomato pie that I baked a few years ago in a traditional pie crust. The painting happens to showcase several of my interests, including gardening, baking, photography and painting. I grew the tomatoes in the pie (a sliced beefsteak plus the cherry tomatoes) as well as the basil sprinkled on top of the pie. I also baked the pie from scratch. My pie crust edges are rustic as they do not hold a decorative shape after the pie goes in the oven, but the crusts are light and flaky. Tomato pie anyone?!
